Campaign update is a new feature in the block-based Visual Content Editor that applies template modifications to campaigns previously built from that template.
Product documentation:
What is Campaign update?
Campaign update enables account admins to distribute a template modification to all the previously created campaigns that use the template. Active campaigns can also be updated with this process.
How does it work?
The feature copies the template modifications on a database-level during the update process into all the existing campaigns that use the template. This allows updating running campaigns without having to pause their AC programs. Not all campaign types can be updated. For more information, see supported functionalities.
For more information on using the Campaign Update feature, see Updating a campaign automatically.
Why should I be using Campaign Update?
Template blocks and content may require regular updates or modifications from time-to-time. When a template is used by many campaigns, keeping all of them up-to-date can become increasingly difficult. With Campaign Update, this process is managed with a single action, allowing regular updates with great ease.
As an alternate solution, you can still manually apply template changes to your campaigns, when you open a campaign that uses an updated template. The system will prompt you with a dialog box, to upgrade the campaign to the latest template version while opening an outdated campaign.
Campaign Update is different in two important aspects:
- You can choose to update all the campaigns, without opening them manually.
- You will be able to update running campaigns without having to stop their Automation Center or Interactions programs.
Which use cases benefit the most from Campaign Update?
- All content or design changes in running campaigns.
- Any content modification in the campaign header or footer (company info, legal terms, etc.)
- Adding new social buttons or changing them.
- Design changes: new logo, new colors, seasonal changes.
- Adding or removing elements from existing campaigns.
Supported functionalities
The following campaign types are available for update:
Campaign type | Status |
---|---|
Recurring campaigns |
|
Batch campaigns |
|
| |
Transactional campaigns |
|
You will not be able to update batch campaigns with launched status, as those emails are already considered sent, and there is no safe way to update them.
Before you start a Campaign Update
Save your changes and finalize all the content elements you wish to change. We recommend starting a Campaign Update process only when you are finished modifying the template so that it is ready for live distribution. Remember that your Automation Center and Interactions programs will use those new template elements during the next mail sending once the update is completed.
Technical prerequisites
This feature requires campaign_edit
permission for your account. Only users with permission to edit campaigns will be able to run Campaign updates.
