The Advanced participation settings feature has been deprecated.
Please note that Automation Center programs using Advanced participation settings have been put to Finished status and will be permanently deleted on March 31, 2023. After deletion, contacts still in the program will exit immediately, and the programs cannot be restored, nor will they be visible in the Emarsys platform anymore.
To filter for your programs with advanced participation settings, select Participation Type under More Filters.
With any concerns, or questions, please contact Emarsys Support.
In this article, you can find guidelines that show you how to rebuild your programs using Advanced participation settings.
For more information on the Participation check node, see the following pages:
Best practices for rebuilding your program with the Participation check node or Email behavior segment filters
In the following sections, you can find examples that show you how to recreate your program with the Participation check node or Email behavior segment filters.
Abandoned browse program
Suppose that you have an abandoned browse program using the Contacts can enter this program immediately after exiting it Advanced participation settings option. This is how the original program looks like:
You can recreate this program as follows:
- Insert a Participation check node and set the If the elapsed time since the contact last proceeded along the Yes path is at least option to 36 hours instead of using Advanced participation settings and a Wait node.
- To make sure that contacts cannot receive the same campaign within 36 hours, we recommend inserting the Participation check node before the first Send email node.
This is how this program looks like:
Registration anniversary
Suppose that you have a registration anniversary program using the Contacts can enter this program again 60 days and 0 hours after exiting it Advanced participation settings. This is how it looks like:

You can recreate this program as follows:
- Use a Participation check node that allows contacts to proceed along on the Yes path after 60 days instead of the previous Advanced participation settings.
- To make sure that contacts can only receive your campaign once every 60 days, we recommend putting the Participation check node before the Send email node.

Using Email behavior segment filters to transfer participation data from one program to another
Although you cannot transfer Advanced participation settings data from one program to another, you can use Email behavior segment filters to overcome this issue. Suppose that you have a re-engager program that sends campaigns to your contacts every 30 days for 3 months which consists of the following nodes:
- Starts with a Recurring filter entry node which runs every day.
- Contains a Segment node after the entry point that filters for inactive customers.
- Uses the Contacts can enter this program immediately after exiting it Advanced participation settings.
- Contains a Send email node that sends a re-engager campaign to your contacts.
- Contains the following sequence of nodes:
- a Wait node that is set to wait for 30 days.
- a Segment node that filters for contacts who did not engage with your emails.
- a Send email node that sends a re-engager campaign reminder to these contacts.
This is how this program looks like:
You can rebuild this program as follows:
- Create an email category (e.g. Re-engager email campaigns) and use it for the related email campaigns.
- Create a segment using the following Email behavior criteria:
- Not received an email
- Received no emails in the selected categories: Re-engager email campaigns
- In the last 30 days
This is how this segment will look:
- Use the Email behavior segment you have just created in the first Segment node.
- When you have activated this program, you can finish your previous program.
This is how this program will look:
