This article provides some examples of how the Overlay Web Channel campaign can be used, and we guide you in deciding when and how to use it.
When should I use Overlay campaigns?
With an Overlay Web Channel campaign you can catch your visitor's attention displaying an extra layer over your web site.
Using Visual Editor or HTML Editor you can select from pre-created layouts and apply an Overlay campaign to:
Update existing customers via forms
Imagine that your existing customer that you address via an Overlay Web Channel campaign notifies you that their profile details have changed recently. In this case, you only need to update the relevant customer profile information in a form. The form only needs to be attached to the campaign.
In your Overlay Web Channel campaign you can update profile information of your existing customers by using either:
- a general registration form, or
- a customized form in an html campaign.
You can update these details:
- Salutation
- Name
- Gender
- Registration language
- Mobile phone number
- Multiple choice fields
It is not possible to modify the email address and the opt-in status of the customer.
Ensure that the form has the email address field added as it identifies the existing customers.

Voucher for inactive mobile users
Note, that voucher tokens prepared under Content > Voucher Management may encounter issues in Web Channel campaigns. As a workaround, before including such voucher tokens in Web Channel campaigns, send them in email campaigns first.
Alternatively, try the updated version of Vouchers under Add-ons with new tokens. For more information, contact your Client Success Manager.
Using voucher codes in Web Channel campaigns means that one voucher code is used for each contact in the Web Channel audience regardless of impressions. A new voucher code is also used for each contact when the Web Channel audience is refreshed (in cca. every 2 hours).
Each contact in the Web Channel campaign segment receives a voucher code assigned to them even if they visited the site or the Web Channel campaign or not.
The following is a typical use case for using Overlay Web Channel campaign edited with Visual Editor:
Let's say you want to display a voucher for your inactive customers. You can offer the voucher to everyone who:
- Uses the site in English language.
- Whose shopping cart value is less then 20 euro.
- Purchase value is zero.
- You do not want to show your web campaign after a visitor clicked on it.
- Visits your website on a mobile device.
This filter would look like as follows:
The Overlay campaign for mobile device would look like this:
Add personalized product recommendation
You can add personalized product recommendations to your website using Predict with the PERSONAL recommender logic. Recommender logics appear on website pages in the form of recommender widgets displaying a selection of relevant products served by the specific logic.
You can apply recommender widgets on the home page, or if space is too limited, on the sidebar on other pages. Also, you should place it on generic pages such as the Help and Support pages, since the Personal widget updates its recommendations with every click. For more information on custom recommendations, see Using the Personal Widget.
Registration form for customer acquisition
Let's say you would like to create an Overlay Web Channel campaign to acquire new customers. You can create a contact acquisition campaign by using the Visual Editor. Display a registration form for your visitors. You can offer the voucher to everyone who was inactive or not purchased regularly.
Opt-in re-permissioning campaign
Let's say your visitors are allowed to set the "opt-in" field to true, if they forgot to opt in during registration. This is an overlay campaign that you can edit with the Visual Editor.
