About this product
The Relational Data feature makes you capable of utilizing the massive amount of business-specific data that you capture and store during your operations. You can use our native connectors to interface with any cloud-based or locally hosted database and use the data synchronously with live data stored at Emarsys.
Instead of storing the data, Relational Data connects to the other databases, making the whole process compliant with the strictest data privacy and data transparency regulations. The self-service solution allows you to manage this data without involving professional IT services - apart from a one time set-up.
With the segment templates you can easily create segments for deep targeting by covering hundreds of scenarios while aiming at true one-to-one personalization. Use the Emarsys Scripting Language to transform any business-specific data for segmentation and personalization that is available across all channels.
Once Relational Data has been activated in your account, you can find it under Contacts - Relational Segments.
How to use it?
You need to have an up-and-running database, with the necessary connectors. Contact Emarsys Support if you need help with setting up the architecture.
Creating a segment template
The first step in using Relational Data is to create a segment template. You should think carefully about what business-specific information you would like to include in your segments. Here is an example.
Overview of self-service elements
In the segment template creation overview page, there are eight major areas:
Here is a breakdown of these:
Select your pre-defined connection from the drop-down menu. For the time being only SQL databases can be connected.
Segment template definition
This is the statement you will use for segment creation. It contains the parameters you have created for the definition.
You can define the necessary parameters and their values in the pop-up window.
Underlying SQL query
This is probably the most important element, as this contains the query used to extract the data from the databases. Constructing the query needs strong IT and/or database management skills.
The reference field shows the field name according to which the results will be presented.
Preview and test
The Preview and Test section shows the statement with the selectable parameters.
Use the Run button to display the specific results of the query.
When your template has been created, you can use it to create segments.
Creating and using relational data segments
When you select the Segments tab, the overview page of segments is displayed.
Click Create New to create a segment based on one of your templates.
Select template to create new segment
Select the required template from the drop-down.
Define the selection criteria for the segment
Add the necessary parameters to the Segment Definition to define the criteria for filtering the segment.
Create the segment
Click Run to create the segment and display the results.
The segment appears in the overview page.
