The Personalization Service collects personal data from a number of sources and makes it all available in one pop-up for any channel which integrates with it.
This service puts an end to feature-dependent personalization; everything will happen on an integrated platform. All incoming data will be processed in the same place, regardless of whether this data is from the Emarsys database or from your own, business-specific dataset.
On the journey towards truly 1-to-1 messages, our Personalization Service is a huge milestone.
Who can use this service?
The Personalization Service is in development and is currently available in the following channels:
Only customers using both the VCE and Relational Data can use this service.
- Web Channel
All Web Channel customers can use this service.
- Mobile Engage
All Mobile Engage customers can use this service.
Where does the data come from?
There are five access points where personal data can enter the service. Each of these is represented by a tab in the pop-up.
All Emarsys can use:
- Data from their Emarsys contact database
- External data using the API and external events.
In addition to this, data can be used from the following products:
- The Relational Data Service
How does it work?
This pop-up has a tab for each data source, where you select the field and configure the setting before generating the personalization token that is added to the message when it is sent.
There is some general functionality common to all tabs.
- Make this field mandatory for sending
If you select this option the message will not be sent to a contact if they do not have a value for the selected field.
- Format displayed text
You have some options for capitalizing the text content.
Each tab provides a preview of the token as a placeholder code snippet.
Please note that even though the tokens cannot be copied from one block to another, the text from this preview window can be copied and then used as an Emarsys Scripting Language snippet in any other block. For more information, see Emarsys Scripting Language.
1. Personalization with the Emarsys contact database
Here you can populate the information in the token from any field that you have uploaded to the Emarsys application. These fields can then be selected in the dropdown.

2. Personalization using Relational Data
With Relational Data, you can use your own, business-specific data in combination with data stored by Emarsys to populate personalization variables. If you, as a pre-requisite, have added reference fields that connect your database to ours, you will be able to select the variables you have created and the fields belonging to it.
If you wish, you can create a new variable, which uses a different database connection and the reference fields belonging to that.
By clicking Next here, your new variable will be selectable on the Relational tab of the main Personalization window. You can also Edit the details of your personalization variable.

3. Personalization using external event data
When you open the External tab, you will need to add a JSON object with your external data to it.
Type in or copy over your JSON object with the necessary keys, to add it to the dropdown.
The keys from the JSON objects will be selectable as fields in the relevant dropdown.
When all set, you will have the personalization token available.

4. Personalization with Predict
Please note that personalization with Predict is not available in the email channel; for email, use the Predict Email Recommender.
The first step of personalizing with Predict is to create a new variable, based on the email recommender logics.
The preset will now be available in the dropdown in the main Personalization window.
