A good way to learn a lot about email creation, if you are just starting out, is to create a Custom html email campaign.
To open the General settings, go to Channels > Email campaigns, click the Create Email button and select Custom HTML Email.
Here you define the following settings:
- Email name - The internal name for the email campaign.
The Email campaign name and its URL must not contain curly brackets: "{" or "}".
- Language - Used for automatic texts such as unsubscribe landing pages.
- Link domain - Here you can choose from the domains used for tracking and serving the links in your emails. If you are using only one link domain, then it will not be displayed on the Email Settings screen.
- Email category - User-definable categories to mark emails, see Email category for more details.
- Additional tracking parameters for this email - These will be added to every URL in your email, if you are using an external tool such as Google Analytics, for example. Note that the additional tracking parameters must be URL encoded.
Ideas for using tracking parameters:
- Your customers could be automatically logged in after clicking, as you could add the Customer ID or a different field to their URL (if your shop or website knows that logic and can handle it).
- You can show different offers to different customer groups, as you can add a field value to the URL to point to a different landing page (e.g. by country or region, language, spending level).
- You can show the nearest shop address and direct your customer to the correct deeplink of their nearest store, as you could add each customer's code in a custom field to the URL as placeholder.
Relational Data (RD) placeholders are also supported as additional tracking parameters.
- Send text-only - If you want to send only a text version of this email, activate this checkbox.
Currently, you cannot set triggered emails to text-only directly from the triggered email's Settings page. As a workaround, you can do the following:
- Create a regular email campaign.
- Check Send text-only.
- Convert the regular email campaign to a triggered email by selecting Generated through an event as the Recipient source.
- After saving, the email will be converted to a Mail Stream and you will not be able to access the Send text-only checkbox anymore.
- Despite you will not see it on the UI, once the campaign is triggered, the text version of the email will be sent.
Email category
You can create your own email categories on the Emarsys Platform UI.
Email categories have multiple uses:
- behavior segmentation as described in Email and mobile behavior criteria
- search filter when searching in Email Campaigns list overview for Email Analysis

is an Emarsys variable for email category, it can be a powerful tool for tracking parameters
To create a new email category, choose the radio button under the existing categories that you can already choose from.
Type the name you want for the new category in the blank space, but keep in mind that the new category gets created only when you click the Save button.
